Every year there are new color trends that take center stage in our homes. When it comes to decor, paint is a key component. Selling a home is another matter though. Here color can be your worst enemy.
Never take a chance on color when you’re selling your home. There’s nothing worse than having a possible sale evaporate over a color pallet. Changing the paint on the walls is one of the easiest upgrades a new buyer can do to a home.
It’s not always easy to convince them of that. It’s hard to believe but colors can make a person fall out of love with a home!
Where does that leave us with the 2020 ‘Top 10‘ list? Let’s take a look at the colors first.
The 2020 Design Colors
1. Orange Apricot (Apricot Orange)
Below we have, ‘Orange Apricot’. What can anyone say about orange? It’s orange. Even apricot is orange.
Sellers should shy away from painting a whole room in it. Not everyone will find it ‘tasteful.’
This color isn’t overpowering as an accent color. Towels, sheets, and even your front door could use a pop of color. This 2020 color would be a good choice for any of them.

2. Moody Maroon
This color is a good friend of the color ‘red’. We have all been warned painting red in large spaces when trying to sell a home. This color is pretty so if you must use it, please stick to accessories or furniture.
3. Pigmented Terracotta
The one is a very good friend of ‘Moody Maroon’ and should be used as accessories as well. The one thing this trend makes us kind of nervous about it stucco walls. When terracotta comes back in fashion, stucco walls seem to follow. Not everyone is a fan of large red-orange stucco walls.
This color would make your patio, deck or entrance way look fabulous!

4. Pale & Matte
This one is a color combo. Take a candy color like cotton candy pink or pale blue and match it with a frost white. The trick to this? Use matte paint.
This color trend could work well in large areas. Think bedroom accent wall.
5. Metallic Black
This is a very particular color for a very particular person. It’s a trend color that’s bold and innovative. You will either love this color or hate it.
Put it on your wall while you’re trying to sell your home and you’ll cut your buyer pool in half.
Color is powerful.

6. Green Military Acid (Acid Olive)
This one is very interesting. We aren’t referring to the green blanket on the bed. The green we are referring to is the green of the rug. We’re probably going to start a debate here.
Is it green or is it gray? It isn’t a bad choice for a carpet though. Just please don’t put it on a wall. This isn’t a good color for a front door. It’s doesn’t pop so it wouldn’t be inviting.
7. Golden Yellow
Yellow is seen as a friendly color. It should be kept as an accent color while you’re selling.
A popular color in many different shades, yellow always makes the list of trends.

8. Deep Emerald
Oh dear. Please dear seller. We will buy you this paint to put on your new home’s walls. Just don’t put it anywhere in your home while we’re trying to sell it.
Green is the color of luck and money but you’ll have neither if your home sits on the market.
9. Saturated Blue
This is clean looking. We feel very calm looking at it.
Not everyone will feel the same though. This is a savvy color. Pull it into your home through curtains, towels, bedding, etc. This color in material against pale walls will give that same crisp look.
The difference is, buyers won’t have to worry about your curtains. They’ll be putting up their own!

10. Color blocking (Clashing pairings)
We honestly just feel like crying. These trends always have one color scheme that throws up for a loop.
This can’t be a home. It must be one of the sets of Mad Men. Don Draper is about to walk on stage any moment.
It is actually a fun look. People buy homes and make themed room all the time. When it comes to selling though, the only theme that works is ‘hotel chique’. Your home has to look like anyone and everyone will feel relaxed. They need to be able to picture themselves in the space.
Color goes a long way in helping them do that.
Keeping the tones calm and the palette neutral will go a long way in helping them do that. These top colors trends are all good looking. You can use them as accents for bedding, curtains, area rugs, etc.
Strike the right balance to land that contract and move onto your next level in life!
